ATLANTA

The Jane Fonda Center at Emory University, a member of the Start Strong Learning Community, is the lead organization for Start Strong Atlanta. As part of this four-year initiative, Start Strong Atlanta will be implementing the Start Strong model by:

  • Implementing Safe Dates, a healthy relationships curriculum, into Atlanta’s public middle and schools
  • Partnering with Grady Health System, Fulton County Health Department, and the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice to reach at-risk youth that may no longer be in school
  • Developing dating violence training programs for parents and teachers
  • Creating a Start Strong Atlanta video and discussion guide to be used in schools and organizations across Atlanta to create awareness and help facilitate group conversations around building healthy teen relationships

BY THE NUMBER:

  • A 2007 Georgia report indicates that 1 out of every 6 Georgia high school students was hit, slapped or physically hurt on purpose by their boyfriend or girlfriend
  • Start Strong Atlanta aims to reach up to 10,000 youth in the Atlanta area
