IDAHO
Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence, a member of the Start Strong Learning Community, is the lead organization for Start Strong Idaho. As part of this four-year initiative, Start Strong Idaho will be implementing the Start Strong model by:
- Introducing Fourth R, a healthy relationships curriculum and project-developed curriculum into middle and junior high school health classes in an eighteen county area comprised of both urban and rural counties.
- Engaging youth out of school through individualized awareness activities or events with project partners and collaborating organizations, such as book clubs on healthy relationships with Girl Scout troops, booths at community health fairs, training for YMCA coaches, and youth nights at Boys & Girls Clubs. Facilitating an Idaho Summit on Adolescent Relationships and Risk Behaviors for professionals who work with adolescents
- Targeting parents, teachers, counselors, social workers, youth leaders, coaches, and pediatricians through educational workshops, teaching community members how to start the conversation of healthy relationships to the youth in their lives
- Developing communication materials to increase awareness on healthy relationships for 11-14 year olds, including a Start Strong Idaho brochure on healthy relationships, buttons, stickers, posters, and other marketing materials.
- Developing and implementing policies intended to reduce dating abuse in school districts, community youth organizations, and health care settings
- Utilizing a Teen Advisory Council to provide feedback on the overall project and promote building healthy relationships with 11-14 year olds through community and school-based education events
