Catholic Charities, a member of the Start Strong Learning Community, is the lead organization for Start Strong Wichita. As part of this four-year initiative, Start Strong Wichita will be implementing the Start Strong model by:

Introducing Fourth R, a healthy relationships curriculum, into four middle schools and two high schools across Wichita reaching thousands of students
Using existing youth leadership programs, Choose Respect and Youth United for Positive Action (YUPA), will form a leadership committee to be responsible for directing this project in a meaningful way that sustains relevance for teens 11-18 years old.
Workshops and dramatic interpretations provided by teens who serve as mentors for older teens
Build on the work of Choose Respect and partner projects currently focused on teen dating relationships which include Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center’s Steppin' Up To Violence and Boys & Girls Club’s Passport to Manhood and Smart Girls
Develop a media campaign that is promoted through our youth that features videos, radio PSAs and website updates

BY THE NUMBER

In the Wichita youth community, more than 10% of all domestic violence victims and 50% of all rape victims under the age of 19
40% of all reported domestic violence victims under the age of 19 report the offender was a boyfriend/girlfriend
Start Strong Wichita aims to reach 7,750 local teens to further educate Wichita youth on healthy relationships and ending relationship violence and abuse
