Start Strong Teens Talk Dating: A Virtual Conference

 On July 31st, Start Strong teens from all 11 sites will come together to promote healthy relationships during an innovative online event, “Start Strong Teens Talk Dating: A Virtual Conference,” and anyone can join the conversation in real time by following the hashtag #TeensTalkDating on Twitter. Using live video feeds, message boards, Twitter and Tumblr, this interactive one-day event will empower students across the nation to explore what it means to be in a healthy relationship and reframe what is acceptable and what is not. › more

 

 

TEENS GATHERED IN BOSTON FOR “BREAK-UP SUMMIT 3.0”: A ONE-DAY CONFERENCE ON HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

On July 26th, Start Strong Boston hosted “Break-Up Summit 3.0,” a conference that brought together teens and adults to tackle teen dating abuse and explore healthy relationships including how to break up in a healthy way. The summit looked at steps teens can take to increase the likelihood of having a respectful split, such as talking face-to-face, sharing positives about the person, discussing the reasons for ending the relationship and setting healthy boundaries. › more

Start Strong Idaho Teens Discover Relationship Lessons in The Hunger Games

It’s been a huge hit at the box offices, earning a spot on the list of Top-25 Performers of all time in North America. But The Hunger Games film has some interesting and debatable things to say about gender roles and relationships that the Start Strong Idaho teens thought needed a second look. Start Strong Idaho conducted an informal poll at The Hunger Games movie premiere with more than 300 Idaho teens to see what local youth thought about this film’s messages. Start Strong Presents at National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence Pre-Conference Institute

On March 29, Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships was the center of a full-day workshop at the Pre-Conference Institute of the National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence (NCHDV) in San Francisco. The NCHDV was organized by Futures Without Violence and is the largest conference on focused on improving the healthcare fields’ response to domestic violence. The conference attracts hundreds physicians, nurses, researchers, social workers, violence prevention experts and more, from around the world each year. › more

 

 

Parenting Pointers: Talking to Kids About Dating

When should you start talking to your kids about dating? A new study conducted with more than 1,400 7th-graders showed that a high number of pre-teens are not only dating, but experiencing abusive relationships and sexual harassment. More than 75 percent reported they had been in dating relationships. Nearly one in six had experienced physical dating violence and more than half had experienced sexual harassment. › more
