DENIM DAY

Start Strong Los Angeles Peace Over Violence is celebrating its annual Denim Day on Wednesday, April 27. The movement, which began after an Italian judge overturned a rape conviction in the 1990s because the victim wore “tight jeans,” is a nation-wide day dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence. Supporters wear jeans on the annual Day to show survivors that they support their healing and stand in solidarity against all forms of sexual violence.

This year, Start Strong Bronx and the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault are teaming up to host an unprecedented “2011 Denim Day NYC” initiative. Events will mark the first time schools, borough presidents’ offices, hospitals and youth-serving organizations are joining together citywide to educate youth on sexual violence and teen dating abuse. The 2011 Denim Day NYC theme is: Partnering with young men to build healthy relationships.
