START STRONG AND FUTURES WITHOUT VIOLENCE PRESENT AT 86TH ANNUAL AMERICAN SCHOOL HEALTH CONFERENCE
On October 12, 2012, Barri Rosenbluth of Start Strong Austin and Safe Place and Debbie Lee of Futures Without Violence presented at the 86th Annual American School Health Conference, “Making Connections: The People, Passion and Promise of School Health,” in San Antonio, Texas.
Their session entitled, “Coordinated Efforts to Promote School Health and Prevent Teen Dating Violence,” included:
- How professionals can recognize the mental, physical and sexual and health effects of dating violence in teens.
- New strategies for promoting healthy relationships, including how to use screenings and safety planning protocols in school settings.
- Resources that school professionals can use to make healthy relationships and teen dating violence prevention part of their health programs.
The session also addressed the connection between students’ academic success and having safe and supportive relationships. For more information, the conference program can be viewed here.
