START STRONG BRIDGEPORT HOSTS MYOSCARS EVENT

Start Strong Bridgeport Hosts MYOscars Event

Start Strong Bridgeport RYASAP’s MYO project (Mine, Yours, Ours: What’s Right in Relationships) hosted their first MYOscars event on March 5th.  The event highlighted “what is right in relationships” in teen’s “most watched” movies of 2009.

Scenes from featured films, which included Hangover, Twilight, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Obsessed and I Can Do Bad All by Myself, were introduced by local teens and MYO youth leaders reinterpreted “what was right in relationships” in these scenes through comical and dramatic performances.

The event launched MYO project’s “Rated R” rating system that evaluates movies, music, television and other forms of media by how “Real, Responsible, Respect, and Right” they are. The “Rated R” rating system will be used by the YouthSPEAK group as a tool for youth to speak out about violent and abusive relationship behaviors that are glorified in popular culture and to create a platform for a new perspective: what’s right in relationships.

News 12 Connecticut attended and filmed the MYOscars event.
